Trial Images

IMG_5262This is one of this first images that I have started to edit, this is from the first set of images I took. When taking this first set of images I took them in daylight and I used that as my only light source. I quite like how these images turned out as they do look quite similar to the ones that I have been looking at for research, such as poses, facial expressions etc. When I am editing these photos I have been trying out different techniques of getting rid of imperfections on the skin. On photoshop I have been using the Surface blur to smooth the skin and then going over the image with a brush and blur to perfect the skin further. Looking back on these photos I have found that they look almost too polished for my liking and although the skin is clear it looks almost plastic and false. I think if there was to be more texture in the skin it would look more realistic, this is something that I will try to put into my next set of images.  When doing my next set of images I will be sure to decrease the intensity of the blur to try and achieve a more realistic look. I have also found that the natural light makes the model look quite washed out and doesn’t bring out much of the texture.

With this next image I have gone back to the same set of images but I have altered the way that I edited the image. For this image I have not used a surface blur but I have just correctedthe small blemishes on the face; by doing this there is still a lot of texture still left in the face and this makes the skin look a lot more realistic compared to the last image I edited. I also prefer the way that this image is composed compared to my previous one as this composition shows a lot of texture in the hair due to the light that is shining on it. I also like the way that the face is lit up on one side and the other is in slight shadow.

The next images that I have edited are some from my second set of images I took and I much prefer them to the first as I think that the images look a lot nicer as they are simple. When editing these images I have only used the brush tool on a soft brush to go over the small blemishes on the face; by doing this I feel like it still leaves a lot of the texture in the skin which was the problem I was having using the surface blur on the face. I think by removing imperfections this way it looks the most natural and doesn’t look plastic. I have also lightened this image using the Brightness/Contrast option on photoshop. When taking these images they were again shot in only natural light, when taking this set of images I ensured that I positioned the model so that there was as little shadowing in the face as possible. I really like how this image has turned out. The next set that I take will have lights used on the model and I will find out what different effects I am able to achieve by using them.

On this next image I was trying out using the healing tool which changes the blemish that you click on to match the rest of the skin, I found that this was much easier to do than using the paint brush tool and was also much quicker. On this image I also used the surface blur to add a very small amount of blur to the image. Comparing this image to my first images I can see clearly that these look much better and I think that this combination of perfecting the skin is the best as it creates the best result.
